Meeting MinutesOn January 11th, the PTA had a great meeting with School Committee Members Priscilla Healy-White and Jeff Pelletier. Both encouraged parents to be involved with what is happeing in the district, not only in their child's elementary schools. Mrs. Healy-White urged parents to get on the curriculum bandwagon by attending Curriculum Coordinator Mary Arno's Curriculum Chats. Though it is often said, Mrs. Healy-White and Mr. Pelletier again stressed to parents that they should not underestimate the difference their presence makes at School Committee Meetings. On the Playground: Courtney Edwards discussed the upcoming Benefit Auction on 2/9 and Leisa Muccio pleased all parents present when she proudly proclaimed P is for Penny Day is promptly approaching! PTA Co-Treasurer Debbie Higgins presented a Financial Report and we voted to continue the Sally Foster fund-raiser next Fall. In exchange for the early commitment, Mitchell and Frisbee will receive free educational software from the company. Cherie Davis gave a quick report on the Soup Label program. She said labels are coming in more slowly now, but to date we have collected more than 2000. In the Principal reports, Mr. Foster shared the fabulous news that Mitchell's Building Project had received needed funds from the state. He anticipates building to begin this year. Just before the meeting ended, Doug Gregan introduced the new Kittery Elementary PTA website: kitterypta.8m.net. The site is chock-full of valuable, carefully screened links for educators, parents and students. The PTA Extra and Calendar are on the site as well. Check it out and tell us what you think. Join us for our next meeting: Monday, Feb. 12 at 7pm in the Mitchell Library. Our guests will be Maria Barth, School Committee Chair and Geoff Brown, School Committee Member. Come a little early for coffee! |
